The Annual Sports Meet of Carmel School Moodbidri was held on Thursday, 10th of November, 2022 on the school grounds with a great zeal, excitement and showed a remarkable team spirit. The school band, escorted the Chief Guest Dr. Amar Sunil Lobo, Assistant Professor, Department of Microbiology, Yenapoya Medical College, Deralakatte, Mangaluru along with Mr. Jossy Menezes, the PTA Vice President, Sr. Elena School Administrator, Sr. Joycelene the Principal of Holy Rosary PU college and Sr. Sunitha Monteiro the Assistant Headmistress of Holy Rosary High School, Sr.Evelyn Marie Coordinator of Play School and Sr.Jyothi the Principal. A spectacular and well synchronised march-past accompanied by a lively band shook the ground. Tr. Shaila introduced the Chief Guest and the gathering. The opening ceremony began with an invocation of God’s blessings on the day. This was followed by a welcome address by the Principal Sr Jyothi welcoming the chief guest and the other dignitaries with a floral bouquet.
During the inaugural ceremony, Suhan Karkere the Sports Minister led the ceremonial march past to the rhythmic beats played by the school band. The four distinctive groups namely, Iris, Tulip, Aster and Orchid displayed a well co-ordinated march-past during which the chief guest Dr. Amar Sunil Lobo received the salute of honour from the marching teams.
The chief guest took the salute of the impressive march-past of the students, coupled with some stirring marching music by the band. The chief guest and other dignitaries hoisted our School Flag, the pride of our school. The 4 teams marched in harmony signifying discipline and self-control. This splendid march-past was judged by Sir Ritesh, physical education instructor and Tr. Ramaa of Holy Rosary Institution. All the students witnessed the Olympic Torch Relay which was displayed by our students in the spirit of sportsmanship. The chief guest inaugurated the ‘Sports Meet of 2022’ by declaring it open.
The torch that signified the spirit of true sportsmanship, enthusiasm, peace and friendship was lit from the diya by the chief guest and carried around the stadium by the athletes of Carmel School. The students entered into the spirit of the day with the oath-taking which was led by the Sports Minister Suhan Karkera.
The chief guest declared the sports meet open to a thundering applause, as coloured balloons were released into the sky. The chief guest addressed the gathering, identifying himself with the athletes, congratulated and appreciated the teams who took part in the march-past, the school band and other sports for their wonderful performances. He inspired the students that there is nothing wrong in losing but to put more efforts to reach greater heights. He reiterated the need for sports and exercise. He urged them to find the right medium which could help them to improve their talents and optimise their potential. He asked the students to participate wholeheartedly in all the events of the day. He encouraged the students to imbibe the true spirit of sports and games and wished them well.
Thereafter, the events of the day began and all the students actively participated in the sporting extravaganza with zeal and enthusiasm.
The athletic events, track and field, such as 100, 200, 400, and 800 metre races followed by long jump and shot put events took place side by side. The last event and the highlight of the day was the 4x100 relay for all the categories and tug of war between the four groups.
The closing ceremony was held in the evening. Finally came the much-awaited event – the prize distribution!
The winners of the team games were felicitated by the chief guest and the dignitaries.
The flag was lowered to mark the end of the sports meet, the flame was put off and all rose for the national anthem.
